GENERAL FAQ

Why go to other sites that offer one perspective of the way readers should look and how much they should cost?  This website is a comprehensive website with different styles, prices, and functionality.  We want you to have as many options as we can provide!  You don’t wear your tux to a ball game and you don’t wear your work out wear to work...

The price of a $15 reader and a $70 dollar reader can be a reflection of design features. Some readers are handmade from top grade plastics, have spring/flexible hinges, long temples allow you to easily position up or down the nose. If you choose a quality frame you can put your prescription in them or even have the lenses replaced when you optometrist tells you that you need a higher power.

If you are having a hard time seeing the times new roman font printed on paper…you have to ask your kids to tell you how much the bill is for dinner…or you squint so much you’re developing crows feet in the corners or your eyes…it might be time for readers.  The minute you notice your vision has changed you should consult your optometrist.

Yes! We have had students come in that want to make reading easier when preparing for finals.  We have had customers that want to see more detail like when working on hobbies like needle pointing. Reading glasses are just simply magnifiers and we recommend just getting as low of a power.

We do not recommend that you use readers to self diagnose what corrective assistance your eyes need.  We also recommend that you don’t go more than two years without an eye exam.

A skilled optician can put your prescription in frames labeled RX-able.  Frames not labeled RX-able might be able to be fitted with your prescription but it depends on the frame, your prescription, and the skill of the optician.  Feel free to call us for more details on a particular frame.

Some brands skip powers because they are not as popular or it is too expensive for them to carry every power in each frame.  However, a brand like Porsche skips powers because the superior lens quality that they offer already compensates for the skipped quarter steps.

Yes, you can try a weaker power or stronger step up.  You will know if the strength seems too strong. All lenses from one brand to the next are different. In one brand you might find that with a stronger power you need to hold the text slightly closer and then with that same power in another frame it seems perfectly fine.  Moreover, your power changes based on the distance you read.

*Rule of thumb…if you have to bring the text really close to read with your readers on, then you need a weaker power.  If you have to hold the text far away to see (arms stretched out) then the power is too weak.  Your readers should not give you a headache or make you woozy.

If you need a power in your computer glasses, the power would be different from your reading glasses.  Additionally, computer glass lenses should have anti-reflective coating.  Premium AR coatings keep light from reflecting off computer lens surfaces and cut down on glare.  Studies show that people who are at computers for a long period of time find that their eyes are more comfortable if they wear lenses with AR coating.

Multi-layer AR coatings make lenses easier to clean and more scratch resistant.

*If you are interested in AR coated lenses in your readers please contact us.

Your power is usually half of your prescribed reading glass power.

Gray=true color

Brown=higher contrast.  Example: This lens is better than gray lens for reading the green when golfing.
